Bay State Quiz Bowl Classic
BOSTON -- Vermont powers Hanover, Mt. Anthony and Burlington traveled to Boston University on December 9, 2000 to compete in the third annual Bay State Quiz Bowl Classic and all represented the state well by finishing in second place in their preliminary round groups and with top-five overall finishes.
In the preliminary round Hanover and Mt. Anthony each went 5-1 to take second place in the groups. Only a narrow loss in the last match of the round kept the Patriots from finishing unbeaten. Burlington ended up 4-2 -- losing a pair of close games -- but also took second place in its group.
All three Vermont teams ended up in the top playoff group and Hanover managed to beat both of its in-state rivals to end up with a 3-3 playoff record and a third-place finish. Burlington and Mt. Anthony both were 2-4 in the playoffs but by virtue of its 195-180 head-to-head win Mt. Anthony took fourth place overall.
Mt. Anthony's B team also competed, going 1-5 in the preliminary round and 3-3 in the third playoff group to finish in 18th position.
