Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl
Fall Knowledge Master Open
Champlain Valley Union High School blew away the Vermont competition and ranked among the nation's elite teams in the 2006 Fall Knowledge Master Open.
The Redhawks correctly answered 197 of the 200 multiple-choice questions to pile up 1693 points, the fifth highest total in the 783-team field. That put CVU, which posted a state-record point total in finishing fifth in the spring, in the overall top five for the second consecutive KMO.
Hanover, which placed 60th overall with 1537 points, was second among the 12 Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl teams participating. Rice (112th place, 1466 points), Mt. Mansfield (121st, 1454) and South Burlington (158th, 1419) were other Vermont teams to crack the 1400-point barrier.
State College Area High School from Pennsylvania won the overall championship with 1774 points.
