Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl

Spring Knowledge Master Open

Champlain Valley broke new ground in the 2006 Spring Knowledge Master Open, setting the state record for points in finishing fifth overall.

The Redhawks correctly answered 198 of the 200 multiple-choice questions and scored 1723 of a possible 2000 points in the national computerized competition. That score broke the previous league best of 1715 point set by Hanover in the spring of 2004.

In finishing fifth overall out of 774 teams, Champlain Valley came close to another state record. Only Hanover's fourth-place showing in the fall of 2003 ranks better among Vermont Scholars' Bowl finishers in the KMO.

Hanover had to settle for second in the league -- and 18th overall -- this time around. The Marauders had 190 correct answers and 1658 points to place first among New Hamsphire schools.

BFA-Fairfax was third among the nine competing Vermont teams, placing 294th with 1286 points. Essex (319th, 1264) was right behind. Full results for Vermont teams are listed below.

Auburn High School of Rockford, Ill., won the overall championship with 1831 points.
