Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl
Fall Knowledge Master Open
A strong all-around season for Vermont's academic teams was reflected by high scores in the 2007 Spring Knowledge Master Open, and again state champion Champlain Valley Union High School led the way.
A total of 12 Vermont schools participated in the multiple-choice, computerized competition, with nine of them beating the overall average score of 1213 by at least 98 points. Vermont had nine of the top 262 teams in a field of 727 and seven of the top 162.
CVU set the pace, correctly answering 196 of the 200 questions to score 1728 points. That gave the Redhawks seventh place overall and a top-10 final placement for the third straight KMO.
State runner-up Hanover was the New Hampshire state champion and placed second among Vermont-NEA Scholars' Bowl teams with 191 correct answers and 1642 points. Mt. Mansfield also faired well, racking up 1560 points to finish 60th overall. Essex (1464 points, 123rd place), South Burlington (1449, 134th), Burlington (1448, 136th) and Rice (1419, 162nd) were the other Vermont teams to crack the 1400-point mark.
State College Area High School from Pennsylvania won the overall championship with 1826 points.
