Fall Hanover Round Robin
HANOVER, N.H. -- Burlington High School posted a perfect 13-0 record to top a field of twenty teams from 17 schools in Vermont and New Hampshire and win the 2001 Fall Hanover Round Robin Tournament at Hanover High School.
Burlington posted a 10-0 mark in the preliminary round, then beat Burlington B (6-4 in the prelims) in the quarterfinals 10-3, Lebanon 10-8 in the semifinals and Hanover B, 15-13, in a back-and-forth championship match. The tournament victory was Burlington's fifth at Hanover but the first in the fall edition of the twice-annual tournaments.
Host Hanover fielded three teams, which combined for a 26-4 preliminary-round record (Hanover A 9-1, Hanover B 9-1, Hanover C 8-2) to take the second, third and fifth seeds into the playoffs. Hanover C lost to fourth-seeded Lebanon (9-1 in the prelims) in the quarterfinals, while Hanover A and Hanover B advanced to face each other in the semifinals with quarterfinal wins over Concord (6-4 in prelims) and Spaulding (7-3 in prelims), respectively. In the hard-fought all-Hanover semifinal, the B's earned their place in the title game with a 10-7 victory.
Also advancing to the playoffs were Alvirne (6-4 in prelims) and Keene (wild card team). Other participating teams were Blue Mountain Union, Colchester, Craftsbury, Crossroads Middle School, Richmond Middle School, Goffstown, Montpelier, Londonderry, Proctor, and Mount Anthony Union.
